RREA Participates in First Ever SEMICA Liberia International Mining, Energy and Petroleum Conference & Exhibition
Monrovia-Liberia. The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), on November 28-30, 2019 participated in SEMICA International first ever international conference held at the Millennium Afrikland Hotel, Monrovia, Liberia.
Speaking at the launch of the three days event, the Liberian President, His Excellency Dr. George M. Weah noted that “with the endowment of natural resources, Liberia has all it takes to attract international investors and other development partners to come and explore for the betterment of the people”.
The three days event aimed to showcase Liberia’s potential in mining, energy, and petroleum, and was organized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Liberia, in association with SEMICA Inc., Burkina Faso.
The event brought together government officials, including Dr. Marc-Antoine Audet, president and chief executive officer of SAMA Resources; Sylvain Some, General Director of Mines and Geology, Ministry of Mines and Quarries, Burkina Faso; Mr. Stephen V. Potter, Sr. Deputy Executive Director-Rural and Renewable Energy Agency of Liberia, international partners, and representatives from the diplomatic corps.
Updating the President during the touring of the exhibition centers, RREA Deputy Executive Director Mr. Stephen V. Potter, Sr. highlighted some significant achievements of the Institution in advancing the Pro-Poor Agenda for Transformation by distributing on cost-recovery basis, high quality solar lighting products, thus impacting the life of about 100,000 rural dwellers through a World Bank funded project called Liberia Renewable Energy Access Project (LIRENAP).
In furtherance, Mr. Potter stressed that “because Liberia is endowed with vast renewable energy potential for power generation, RREA aims to facilitate rural electrification through the use of clean energy technologies, an opportunity that presents clear investment for the private sector”. He concluded.
